I posted this in the wheels section of MTBRetard but no one wants to help, so sorry for the thread clutter. I used the DT Swiss spoke calculator and got 260 and 261 for spoke lengths. Wheel is 26" DT Swiss ex500 and a DT Swiss 350 20mm front hub. Does this sound correct? If so, could I use 261's for both flange sides?

Should be, good luck finding 261 long though.
I've had no problem finding 261's.

So sizing down would be the way to go? I figured too long would have been better than too short, if they poke out of the other end of the spoke nipple i figured it would be minimal and that i could file them down..

Too short is better than too long. If you go too long you will run out of thread before hitting full tension. I'd just use 260s on both sides. But I don't think you will have a problem with 261s, in general you can go + or - 1mm from the calculated length.
