Ok, I need to replace my X9 derailleur. What's the difference between the X9-ESP with the black cage and the X9 with the silver cage? Aftermarket vs. OEM?
The 04's have a stamped bottom parallelogram link with a black finish.
The 05's have an formed aluminum bottom parallelogram link which is well the color of aluminum (i.e. silver).
The "cage" is what carries the jockey wheels and my 05 X.9 cage is silver.

Wow, didn't even catch that the first time through either. Looks like the '05 design (silver) has less exposure to the lower pulley wheel. Guess I'll have to step up and spend the extra $$ for the '05.
Anyone want a used for one day '05 X9 long cage? I normally run a mid-cage.
Just to note, I think the 05 X9 has different pulleys to the 04, one bush, one bearing. The 04 X9 had dual bearing.
I'm pretty sure that's right, some other tech weenie can correct me otherwise.
