Most times (but not all) when I view or download quicktime files, they appear distorted on the bottom. I get a very compressed version on the top half and colored lines on the bottom.

It's the free version. Anyone experienced this and have a fix?

Could just be the files themselves with bad compression. You could try re-installing Quicktime, but it's more likely it's just the files. Try downloading a high quality movie trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/) or something to test it.
