    RIP Jeremy Lusk
It is with great sadness that we report Jeremy Lusk succumbed to his injures tonight at 11:03pm PST. He was surrounded by his loving Mother and father, Chuck & Gina Lusk, his wonderful wife Lauren, his mother and father in law Lyne & Larry along with his closest Mulisha friends Brian Deegan, Ryan Hagy, Cameron Steele & Erik Apple. He is now with our Heavenly Father and is at peace. We know he is performing sick tricks for all those in Heaven to crowds greater than we have ever seen. We will miss you Pitbull!

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

We will provide further updates on arrangements when we get them.

    Jeremy Lusk 11/26/1984 - 02/09/2009

He had a pretty nasty crash. I was able to search for it on youtube and I'm surprised he didn't die on impact. It wasn't the impact that killed him but his head/neck area bent around pretty bad.

I'm sure it will get pulled, maybe maybe not.

The bottom line is........he passed away doing something that he Loved. I only wish that if I were to pass unexpectedly that it would be doing something that I had a passion for. R.I.P.

    dreadful news. rip.

I don't know much about the safety, but would a neck brace given him a chance of surviving the crash?

No, neck brace would probably have done nothing. It was head trauma from about 25ft up straight onto his head.

Yeah, it was full head trauma. I don't think that the neck had anything to do with his death. Most certainly broke his neck though. A terrible thing to watch. One of the most disgusting things to see happen to such a talented kid.
    That is terrible news.

    saw the video, horrific crash.

i think it's reprehensible that donations were being solicited from the public for his care, however. he's a PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE who was being paid to ride. of all people he should have insurance coverage + helicopter ambulance coverage.

this is like the incident with RhinofromWA's medical bills writ globally.

Very sad news but that is a sport that caries very high risks. After watching the Video it looks like a Leatt Brace could have saved his live. But you never know.

Might not be the case with Lusk, but there are many professional 'extreme' athletes that have extremely tough times getting health insurance based on their 'job'.

either they should rightly pay exorbitant premiums or they should buck up and get their promoters and sponsors to "insure" them. relying on the public for handouts and just assuming that one's skill is so great that an accident will never happen is not a good option.

I totally agree. I wouldnt ride my downhill bike, let alone flip a moto 50 feet in the air, if i didnt have health insurance.

Regardless. A tragedy for the sport, and for his family.

Sorry, but i find it a bit tasteltess to read people complaining about memorial funds, or other donations; especially given the context of this thread.

that being said, there are many people out there who feel compelled to donate to people and families in times of tragedy, regarless of whether the victim(s) 'need' it or not. For some people it's an act of goodwill they feel compelled to express, for others it might be out of sympathy, karma . . or even gratitude for the entertainment or inspiration they might have provided. And sometimes it just feels good to give.

if people wish to send money, setting up a fund simply directs them where to send it.

I don't have health insurance and haven't for like 5 years, sometimes it really sucks and I get totally hosed on medical bills, but honestly, I cannot afford $800ish (what I've been quoted from basically every insurance company I have talked to) a month, that's just absurd.

It's sad that Jeremy is gone before his time. It's almost as bad douch bags like toshi use this tragedy to spew forth their hate. He must be a bitter man.

i'll accept being labeled as a douchebag by you as long as your opinion continues to not matter to me.

the fact of the matter is that it is idiocy to ride downhill or motocross without health insurance. i know a lot of people do it, apparently "professionals" included. doesn't make it any less stupid.

That's the truth. Unless you have one of those rare jobs that have full/good health insurance or are making an absolute killing who the hell can afford health insurance IF you are HONEST with them on what you do. If you aren't chances are they will fawk you for not disclosing what you do if an accident does occur. Something tells me that with the way the economy is going the jobs with health insurance that is comprehensive will be even less in the coming years. That is unless Obama gets some sort of plan rolling.

Just what I was thinking. Whenever asked how I was injured I reply with hiking.
