Any thoughts on rurnning Race Face's Trail Bike Cranks, the Atlas's, for DH??

The Diablos seem to overkill to me. I love the North Shores that I've been running for the last three years, and don't see why I need a heavier set of cranks. I do want a BB that'll last a while, and rotate with less friction. The BB Bearings on ISIS BB's are to small for amount of load they are under IMO and I think that outboard bearings are step in the right direction in this aspect, and also eliminate some flex (vs internal bearings) due to the bearings being farther apart.

Anways I doubt too many have had the chance to really try out the Atlas crank set yet but if anyone has any thoughts on running them on a DH race bike LET ME KNOW!!

Oh yeah I am pretty easy on cranks I haven't ruined a set yet!

-Ride like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Honestly ride kind of redneck style, a little rough around the edges ie not smooth!

Go cheap RaceFace. I probably ride like you (but a little slower) and I've been running old Prodigy xc's for almost 3 years - they've outlasted 2 forks, 2 frames, a half dozen or so crappy ISIS BB's, 2 wheelsets... you get the picture.

I've had old RF turbines (not that old, they're still ISIS) on my DH bike for 3 years. I ride like a sexy body builder with just enough oil on my pecs to grab your eye but not look for your reflection.......if that helps.

Whew I had to think about that one for a while! I ride like a Yugoslavian Bodybuilder with a uni-brow, and buck teeth!

Yeah most people I know have never had many problems strength wise with the older style Race Face cranks. It was mainly the bearings wearing out after one ride in the mud (possibly followed by the high pressure hose down) that seemed to be the downfall of the ISIS system?

do they atlas have the same problems as the diabolous with the crank interface?

id say get the new xt's with atlus or the uber light ones bb cups (what i have on my dh bike) it weights nothing

Is it dead? I didn't know....I'm sorry.........so young......so much potential.

The only ISIS bb I've killed was a truvative sl that was "rebuilt" and given to me for free. I've had a gigapipe Dh on my Dh bike for a while now with no troubles. I live in hella norcal though and not in mudslide socal so my DH'in is mainly just dusty.

Look at it this way....Race Face's warranty. Usually pretty good. If you kill a BB because of mud you can just chuck it at vancouver (you're close right?) and scream "Bastards!!! I thought this was shore tested????? Not such a good benchmark EH??????? Now you make bike parts like you make Molson!!!!?????"

That'll show'em.

i say you're fine with the Atlas. they are burlier then the new XT cranks. and people use the XTs for DH. so go Atlas.
