I just ordered and received from Cambria a set of 22-, 32-, and 44-tooth 8-speed Raceface rings for $89. The RF box calls them "high performance" and the label says they're Model CHRRF8C224.
Cambria said they were ramped and pinned, but there are no ramps at all, and only 4 pins on each. Anyone have experience with these? Are they any good or should I send them back? I'll be replacing the worn-out but reliable Suginos, which were highly ramped, and I suspect lighter weight as well, but I'm having trouble finding 8-speed stuff now.

I don't really know much about what you are specifically talking about - but let me put my $.02 in - RACE FACE rings SUCK.

Right from the factory, my middle chain ring was bent on my new RM Element - thereby causing my chain to fall of and get stuck between the rings and my frame. I have massive frame damage from it - it took a few tries to diagnose the problem.

Not a fan!

To add to the above comment, Race Face Rings really really really suck.

I bought a set a couple of seasons ago and the granny ring completely wore out in a couple of months(didn't even use it much) and by the end of the season wore out the middle ring..those things are softer than butter, I replaced with XT's and have been great since.

The rings suck but the cranks have been great though

Hmm, I have a set on my current big bike, and they seem to work fine. I've bent a Real middle ring in the past, but have had no problems with the RF so far (~6 months on them now).

What crankset did your bike have? Curious b/c I have a new RM Slayer with Prodigy cranks/rings that seems fine. Plus (not related to your bike) I've been running a RF middle ring on my hardtail for three years without problems. Granted it was the only ring on the bike for about 2.9 years so I can't attest to the shifting performance, but it still works fine. My current Prodigy cranks don't have ramps on the outer ring so maybe you got a set of those? Post a pic--I don't like reading. Just kidding. But, still post a pic. I like pics.

I've run a RF big ring on my geared bike for a while and it's great. No ramps, only pins and it shifts just as good or better than any ramped Shimano ring. Wears a lot better too. Well worth the money.

I suspect MTBchix problem more than likely occurred somewhere in the shipping/transportation process rather than being defective out of production. You are talking about a component which was shipping to RM, then shipped to a bikeshop, installed by someone of unknown skill lever (at either RM or the shop). Lots of potential for the ring to get hosed after it left Race Face. Of course, that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about those.

Possible - but I only deal with the shop owners - and one of them told me it's the second one he had seen

My rings on my Prodigy cranks were garbage. The teeth on the middle were sheding off! It was unreal. The rings that come on the prodigy are not the same as the rings on the more expensive RF cranks.

The after-market RF rings I have are doing just fine.

I believe all the prodigy stuff is made in Taiwan. Its RF lower end stuff and not as high quality as their other stuff. That said, I fing their rings chain suck a bit more than XT. They shift fine and the wear for me is similar to XT. I get about 4 months from a middle ring and double that for a big ring. I don't use the granny much so they last a long time.

I have had a middle RF that seems to be wearing fine. I will say that I have heard people talk about bad experiences with them.
Cambria is actually one of the only places with REAL rings left (out of business for those that did not know that) and in my opinion, they are by far superior to any ring I have ridden.

you ride w/ a middle ring , honestly i have never had anything but good luck w/ race face rings. the older rings don't have ramps on them i believe, but now RF has some realllllllly nice ramps that they are putting on all the NEW rings for 02. well maybe they haven't released em but i sure do remember seeing a pic of them from interbike.......
