Hi guys I have a Mongoose Black comb mountain bike. I really enjoy it it works great.

My question, How can I get the handle bars up higher? There is not factory adjuster. I have heard some stuff about riser bars and such? I am looking for a good 2 inches. Is that possible and what are my options? We have a great bike shop here in town, I am just wondering if I can do the job myself or should I have a pro do it?

Thanks so much in advance.

just ride to the lbs with the bike and ask them. sure you can do it yourself, they can sell you the parts, tools, and probably give you free advice....that is....if they're cool.

That bike seems to have (judging by the photo on Walmart.com) 1.5-2" riser bars already. To raise them up, you'll need to replace the stem. If you aren't looking for a radical change in height, go with an adjustable stem which will run you about $25 at your LBS. If you want even more height, you can also get a steerer tube extender which will raise your stem 3", and will also set you back about $25. Hell, you can go for both and get upwards of 4-6" of additional rise.

Now thats what I am talking about. Its just that the bike is killing my back. I am 6'1 and I dont think it was designed for me. Thanks for all of the help I will take it to my local bike shop.
