I really don’t see how he’ll get that lucky again, especially in a competition environment when everything is that bit faster and looser

Well, he nailed it his second try.

And I don't see everything being faster and looser in the competition, dude was going just about terminal velocity on the landing on his second try and simultaneously managed to make it look like he was riding on ice and also still smooth as fuck.

Fucking bananas.

Was looking at the bikes for men off of PB. There are 2 Yeti's. 165's with Dual crown. Hmmm....good job...? That's like putting a dual crown on your SC Nomad. Then hucking your meat. Hold my beer. I'll be right back.

As for looks, I do like Brendan's Scott. Then there's the GT from what's his name. Rhymes with that guy that has a ton of energy and usually does the broadcasting.

Oh and we'll just call him "Single Crown Semenuk" HA. Does look good tho. Single crown for the tricks and chicks? :D

Brendogs run at a 76 hahahahahaha

Also I am convinced that Sorge has actual blackmail on the judges because it's the only explanation for the extra 15+ points he consistently gets added to his boring ass runs.

Top three guys are all pretty deserving right now though. Storch should be up there too probably though, as should Brendog.

At this point just get rid of the judges. They don't add anything to the event.

Not taking away from other riders skill, BUT - It is supposed to be a freeride comp, not an xtra large slopestyle comp.

Brendan got robbed again - 76 - what a fuckin' joke. Maybe that was not enough to win, (I personally think it was) but damn, I will take raw and gnarly over flippy-whippy any day.

I give.

Here's a thought... Have the riders judge. They all do their runs, then once everyone gets a second run (if they want it), they all watch each other's runs, and they score every rider except themselves. Those scores are then averaged to get the final rankings.

That sounds like some pinkocommunosocialism to me. This is event is held in the great Amurikan state of Utahr not Commipinkoland.

To me it looked a pretty clear statement by Rampage, that they literally don't want him there.
That score means he doesn't get an auto invite to next year.

They also made a very clear statement, that they see the event as "Audi Nine's" or Darkfest on (heavily modified) natural terrain, marketed largely for the insular flag wavers.

Considering his youtube content was miles ahead of anybody elses I saw. They could take it all and recut it into a short movie and it would rock. I wonder if it would be different if he wore the correct helmet?

why not let the viewers decide? make an app, every viewer can rank the runs from 1 to x as they want, job done. give it a small time window after all the runs are done, then publish the ranking. riders can do a 2nd one if they think they can improve

Ah yes the general public are well known for their impartial and non-herd mentality views....

I deadset don't know the answer - but the panel needs to be lined up against a wall after today.

Wonder if the riders voting would help? Beats me. Judged events are fucked.

Haven't watched any of it but just saw Semenuk's run. That's what won it? He even cased the 2nd last jump..

I skimmed the replay, several riders had bigger balls-out runs and just cooler lines. Semenuk, while an impressive floppy spinny show, didn’t deserve 1st.

They already have a riders choice and a fans choice, leaving the winner up to the masses will never be a fair competition, just a contesting who’s bigger on social media.

And to be honest the riders have enough going on without having to try and make objective decisions about their peers, it’s hard to vote on who has the best run when you’re watching from the start hut or have just finished your run.

If it needs to have a winner at all, it needs a judging panel. The issue I see is that riders are in the dark about what the max potential score of their run is and the judges rubric seems to heavily favour total number of jumps and tricks rather than overall technicality, vision and ability displayed.

In acrobatics the athletes know what their maximum potential score is before they even step on the mat. Riders should be able to say “I’ve built an 85 point run that I’m comfortable with, and there’s potential to make it a 92 if I trick my last two features” rather than the current “I built something a normal rider would die on, but it turns out to be 76 points”

Refusing to watch given the reporting of Fairclough being robbed so badly on his score. When he feels the need to put out a short in between runs saying eff it, I'm going home, freeride is dead.

To be honest, it's still worth watching. Save Sorge and Semenuks run, any of the top 5 runs would have won any previous rampage that's ever happened. The level of bananas in this year's top 7-8 was on par with the amount needed to feed 800 gorillas for a year.

Yeah. Poop. I feel very conflicted.

Such a dynasty. Such a travesty.

Things can be improved.

I have not given them a view yet. I don't really need to. So suck it.

Do it right.

And ya'll know what I mean.

The judges have a tough and thankless job - I don't see any way to judge this event without pissing off a lot of people. That's just how it is with subjective competitions. They're not even comparing apples to apples in some cases.

I was thinking Godziek should get with Brendog and start a robbery victims' support group, but looking at the runs again I'm less sure. It's a little boring to see Semenuk win again but hard to say he didn't deserve it. His run was bananas top to bottom. I think some of us are desensitized to what that guy does. Tricking everything makes massive shit look like child's play.

For sure Brendog should have scored higher though.

This is about dead on with my opinion. Semenuk won, Brendan did get robbed, TVS frontflip was huge, tough to figure out where to slot everyone but Brandon was the most well rounded.

It doesn’t help that Semenuk had such a calm demeanour when describing his riding - Brendog does a good job in his videos both saying and showing he’s on the edge of control. Semenuk is a little robotic, he doesn’t play up the challenge of doing a flip whip over a giant gap, he actually makes it sound feasible that anyone should be able to do it.

I remember hearing a discussion about a football player turned mentor and he genuinely couldn’t understand that some of his skill level is simply outside of the reach of other athletes.
