Probably not if they're flying relatively obsolete Messi 109s and the other guys are in P-47s, P-51s and later model Spitfires. Plus, most of the super high scoring German aces racked up a lot of those kills against largely inferior Russian pilots (and in many cases against inferior aircraft like lend-lease P-39s) rather than against American & Brit pilots. And kraut pilots flew a helluva lot more missions than their Allied counterparts, mostly out of desperate necessity, which allowed them to rack crazy up kill numbers but also usually meant they never made it May, 1945.

You are right on many accounts, but why is there no allied pilot in the top 230 then?
Funny you mention inferior russian pilots. There are 15 russian pilots that scored 40 kills or more, the same number of kills that the best US pilot had, best Brit had 38. Maybe being an English native speaker makes you suck at flying. ;) :D

So I would say the Russians were "largely" inferior compared to the Gerrys, but there were clearly a lot of exceptions, just as one would expect if you throw enough guys in the air, some of them are going to be legit AF. The big numbers they and their Bavarian counterparts accumulated were also reflective of the sheer scale of eastern front air combat and the insane number of missions both sides flew. It should also be mentioned that the Germans, 'Muricans, and the bad teeth air force usually had pretty high standards for accurately recording a kill, versus the Russians who, well lets just say tended to make a lot of assumptions. Although I think the worst was the Japanese pilots who apparently sank more aircraft carriers than we actually ever had and probably claimed to have shot down a few F-35s along the way. In many cases with the US pilots, they sent the truly gifted/successful guys back home to sell war bonds so they never had the opportunity to pile up big numbers. I have no doubt that guys like Richard Bong :drag: would've racked up huge numbers if he was almost constantly fighting on the eastern front. As for the aircraft themselves, kinda like mountain bikes, they were generally pretty equal and it often came down to the pilot and luck (e.g. lots of big scoring aces got shot down because they got surprised and never had a chance to even get a shot off or try to evade the attacker).
