linkedin = kill list
I made the mistake of signing up for linkedin like 10 years ago for my job at the time. I have never actually used it and have tried numerous times to unsubscribe/cancel/burn it with fire/make it leave me alone.

It. Will. Not. Leave. Me. Alone.

It proved me well as a non profit administrator dealing with corporations and donors but yes, it is quite difficult to get rid of, sorta like herpes.....I hear

Man I wish I'd seen these earlier. A number of recent factors has caused me to become a casual job seeker, and several places I sent resumes required a LinkedIn account. The amount of bullshit I've received in the last two weeks is astonishing. I'm having a hard time differentiating LinkedIn from FB. Pretty sure I've already decided that if your company requires a LinkedIn account as part of the hiring process, I don't want to work there.

Its not that bad, its like a facebook with more spam, but is your application and resume all tidy in one place.

You know how FB and Instagram are full of insufferable people who try to craft a perfect, unachievable idealized version of themselves and their lives to make themselves feel good and others feel inadequate? Imagine a place where that same dynamic takes place, except its people whose #1 priority is their work life/identity, and everyone is busy stroking each other's egos in some twisted self-congratulating occupational utopia.

There are people who thrive in that sort environment, and I can say with 110% confidence it isn't you.

I already have that. It's called "Google Drive".

And I'm not sure why it matters since almost every place makes you spend 20 minutes answering questions about stuff that's already on my god damned resume in the first place.

It's enough to make me stay where I am.

Not sure what was the last time you were job hunting, but it became total shit in the past five+ years - LinkedIn, machine-assessed resumes, AI applicant matching, HR outsourced to countries far far away - basically if you don't get a job reference from someone you know, you're screwed.

Let's just say that the last time I was serious about a job search, was pre 9/11.

I have been trying to delete my LinkedIn account for months. I get to the last part and the delete (or whatever equivalent) button is not activated.

-Change your registered name to not yours
-Change your registered email to not yours
-Change your image to not yours
-Change your job history to Republican Strategist and Exotic Dancer
-Send all of their emails to spam

If they will not let you escape, create chaos. Hell I'd create my own fake company with a bunch of fake employees and try to scam the scammers.

Wasn't it @Westy saying he saw a job posting requesting 10 years of experience for a piece of software that's only existed for 2?

That was for a job requisition a hiring manager at my current job asked me to review. I have seen similar but not quite as egregious garbage in my job searches.
