I think it's a Hindu symbol for luck. When I visited Nepal, it was painted on a large number of homes. Kinda like a horseshoe for us.

THREE teenagers have suffered burns in a stunt-bike-riding incident at Findon, in Adelaide's west.
The teenagers - believed to two boys and a girl all aged 15 - were burned when doing a stunt BMX jump through fire at Findon Skid Kids on Reserve Parade, about 4.30pm.
It was the final event of the club's 55th birthday celebration championship, which was held at the track today.
The teenagers were taken to the Women's and Children's Hospital for treatment of their burns.
A hospital spokesman would not release details on their injuries or condition without parental consent but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The Findon Skid Kids gained global coverage for their stunt riding in the 1970s.
My Australian geography is a little weak but I will assume Adelaide is near Darwin.
