I wonder if anyone's ever gotten one of those with a spelling error. Is it supposed to be clever? Like 'this is where he was pierced by the Roman guard on the cross'?

Pretty sure that one is in a death-spiral. Flying B-17s inverted... not advised.
As SS said, it is probably in a spiral. G-forces of a spinning plane make it pretty tough to make your way to the nearest exit. Door gunners probably had a chance. Unless it continued to break up the others probably went down with the ship.
Nah they pulled it out. Those 4 Pratt and Whitneys kept it running good and straight.
As previously noted, it's on it's back. I'd be reluctant to lay odds on that one, the 8th AF accounted for half of the losses in the Army/Airforce in WW2.

Went for a ride in this beast earlier this year. First photo is out the top hatch just aft of the top turret. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend it...
