Having driven performance cars with automatic transmission, as long as you can control the shifting points, it's fine. It's only when the engagement goes into neutral when not under throttle is sucks. Honestly, going forward I would prefer to have a paddle shift transmission. As long as it's not a slushbox.

While I do agree with you that a manual is the way to go, actually having driven the Polestar S60 I can tell you that they have worked wonders with that tranny. It really is a horrendous gearbox in the normal Volvo guise, but Polestar have managed to whip it into shape.

There's also the fact that the 6 cyl engine from Volvo doesn't come with a manual gearbox as option and Polestar thought it too expensive to rebuild every car.
