Yeah - both the Senate and the Electoral College were compromises to appease the slave-owners. To their credit, it's unlikely our republic *ever* would have gotten off the ground without them.

That doesn't change the fact that they are, in a modern world, a bit anachronistic.

I'm personally OK with the the Senate arrangement... does give smaller states at least a small hope of being heard in national issues.

The Electoral College really needs to go. There has been no argument that I've heard that makes me think the office of President shouldn't be carried by a popular vote.
