Right. Because there was a period in history prior to this when things were so much better.

Pensions used to be a regular part of employment. Gov't used to finance housing on a gigantic scale.

Before Reagan, unions were ubiquitous and had genuine bargaining power.

Let’s not fail to recognize that as weird as shit is, it’s not far from the top in terms of the human timeline.
I don't agree. See: reformation pre jim crow. look up Levittown even.

Lots of programs being dismissed these days aren't new at all. Many used to be part of living in this joint.

but I mean sure....some technology is better because it always moves forward but in terms of JD's post, we've gone a long ways backwards and you seem to think history only moves towards a positive direction, therefore we must be near the top. That's not the case. At all.

earlier this morning i was reading that in some state they are making exceptions for teens as young as 14 to work until 11pm several nights a week.

Edit
Tim Thompson owns 76 franchised Wendy’s restaurants in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio, and he started employing hundreds of 14-year-olds during the summer.

“It’s been a blessing. We’ve hired about 500 14- and 15-year-olds,” Thompson told the Trib. “They’re high-energy, hard-working and they show up because their parents drive them.”

The timeline thing is people saying that they don’t like this divergent timeline. Basically we are in biffs timeline from back to the future. I think it’s a stupid thing to be popular to say.

but ya I’ve heard and made thins argument before.120 years ago a billion had no ac, tv, computer, plane travel (though a fancy train), wife and kids still died in childbirth, little to no vaccinations. So in a lot of ways the poor have a lot more now then ever before, and way more types of jobs now.

Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do better. Hopefully this is a transitional period. But things are better than ever in a lot of ways. Because otherwise if things where better before we could technically “make America great again”.

"technology"
yes but it’s all technology. Cleanish water, working conditions, sewer, I suppose child labor isn’t a technology. But technology helped end child labor and slavery, sorta.

was it even possible to be homeless in 1900? The shack you could build was a home, by today’s standards you would be homeless. In a lot of ways nothing has changed for hundreds of years but the technology that has ah trickledowned.

In any case I agree with you and just wanted to post something.

It's been possible to be homeless since the advent of agriculture.
