I'm on the train, it stops, a couple of black kids walk on and are talking crap. One actually says, "I think that n:gger wanted to go." And in the seats next to them is a mother and her ~5yo boy.

Ok, I get it, so black people think they can say n:gger, but I'm allowed to think they're ignorant, selfish jerks for saying it in general. I don't think they should. But they most certainly should NOT say it in front of small children... which they did 3-4x more before they got off at the next stop.

Does anyone think it's ok for black people to call each other n:gger? (Let's assume there are no children around)

It's dicey in public. I call my cousin an ignorant beaner, wet back, spic all the time, but it's just us and it's a term of endearment. If anyone else were to call him that he would likely kill them.

I would never say those things to him in front of my kids or his.

I think that too big a deal is made out of the word in general. It doesnt offend me, and it apparently doesnt offend alot of the black folks i know when they say it to one another, so really i just think getting offended by it is more of a crutch for racism than it is an actual derogatory term.

If I didn't think they'd kick the crap out of me, I'd tell them to watch their language in front of the kids, same as if they were dropping f-bombs.

It's not really racism, but it's disrespectful and rudeto talk like that in front of strangers.

I say you can't have it both ways, either use the word and expect others too (including whitey) or don't use the word and don't expect others to.....

IMHO they might had well been swaering in front of a 5 yr old child, people just don't seem to have any respect in public anymore.......

fighting sux cuz someone's gonna get hurt and someone's (probably) gonna get arrested. I didn't mind the occassional fight as a kid cuz it never went too far and strangely enough, you wound up being friends with the guy afterwards.

The problem with potentially violent people nowadays, which I think these kids were, is people don't just fight and leave the guy on the ground... they seriously hurt or kill people But that's another rant and thread.

You're correct, I hope I didn't make it sound like I meant all (or even many) black people find it acceptable.
