I got a speeding ticket, forgot to pay it, got a letter reminding me -- first letter -- with a late fee. Okay, fine, my bad... paid ticket and late fee.

Just got a letter saying that because of my outstanding violation that I have to prove it's paid or my license gets cancelled.

A. you know I paid it (did so online) so why do I have to prove it?
2. What the FVCK is with the zero tolerance? I'm late with ONE outstanding ticket... fvck you! One ticket for a low-level speeding violation and I'm going to get my license cancelled if I don't prove I paid it?

2) When stopped on your DEADLY rampage by a selfless police officer who daily risks his life for the likes of you, you tore up the ticket, threw it at his feet and announced "I ain't payin' that pig", then sped off again scattering grannies in their Zimmer frames in your wake.
3) Upon a receipt of a polite letter asking you to pay a measly 79 extra cents in administrative fees you come here RANTING and RAVING about how unfair everything is.

I called the Dept. of Revenue who is listed on the letter. They said that eventho I paid the ticket a full week BEFORE the letter of future cancellation was even written that it can take a while for that payment to be processed from the online payment company... eventho my credit card was charged immediately.

Then they send confirmation to the court who then has to process it and then notify the Dept of Rev. who will then contact the DMV to rescind the order of cancellation.

The do NOT send a letter of confirmation to me of the fact that FOUR depts finally pulled their collective heads out of their asses.

I asked the person on the phone at D.R., "what am I supposed to do?"

Reponse: "Oh, call every 4-5 days to check on it."


I cannot imagine for one moment what frustration people have when they have a real problem that involves the govt.

I recommend NOT using the online pay service unless you know for a fact that it's run by the same dept that needs to receive the funds.

However, if you need to pay by Friday and you have NOT received a late notice, then you've got enough time for the system to process it.

Here in VA, we have decals on our windshields proving that our cars are registered in the city/county we live in. Recently, the county I live in decided it was a stupid idea and got rid of the decals. The adjoining cities and municipalities were notified of this change as a missing decal warranted a ticket. This change went into effect almost a year ago.

Recently, a friend mentioned that she got a ticket from a parking cop in the City (decal still required) for not having her decal. She stated to the officer that she lived outside the City and was not required to have a decal. She actually had to take time off from work, go to court and prove that she was a county resident and therefore did not need the decal.

I'm sure the time she took off work was worth well more than the amount due from the ticket, but what do you do, pay the ticket and admit guilt, of fight it and spend more than the ticket would have cost?

it's phuqued with my insurance ever since.
but not right away.
it was a year before the ins. co. decided that it was a major problem.

When I lived in San Diego, someone stole the plate off my car. Prior to leaving for work, a parking cop had come by and given me a ticket for no visible registration.

I called the police department and told them they gave me a ticket BEFORE I knew it was missing. They said it would be cleared and to not worry about it and I moved out of state 3 weeks later.

6 months after moving to Oregon, I got a letter telling me that a warrant was issued because I missed my court date. It took nearly a year to clear everything up and they STILL wanted me to appear in San Diego to show I had valid registration at the time the ticket was issued.

You would think they would be able to look that stuff up.

i HATE dealing w/ the DMV, they are all so screwed up and behind that it's pointless. In NC, if you have lapsed on your insurance coverage the dmv will issue a "pickup order" on your plate which means that i have to take the tag if i come across it. the premise is that this "pickup order" keeps uninsured drivers off of the road and that's fine, however, prior to the mandatory pickup order, the officer was allowed the discretion to let it go if the owner could show proof of current insurance...but not now. and the big pisser is that when you change insurance companies the old company reports to dmv that you are no longer insured w/ them but the new company doesn't always report to DMV that you are now covered by them, thus showing a lapse in coverage and the issuance of a pickup order on your tag

They make the DMV look like a smoothly oiled machine. Call them three times, ask the same question to different people, and you'll get totally different and contradictory answers. (An aside...the immigration proposals out there right now are idiotic, until you do something about the INS. No one is going to wait to do it legally. When it's easier to pay a smuggler to get you through a desert trek in the summer than it is to navigate a government agency, you know you have problems...)

As for Immigration, I heard a 'loophole'... go get married (if that's the goal) in Las Vegas. No one there checks anything, but it does become legal and official. Then the process is much easier.

i was being recruited by the border patrol due to my military background, law enforcement and the fact that i habla.........the pay was good but i told them i 'd wait until the laws were fixed. i really think i'd like the job but i just don't want to be caught up in that mess right now.
