I have a brand new 2003 Z.1 FR SL, still to break in. I head a huge metallic noise both in compression and in release when the fork is full extended, for instance if you take a jump or a wheelie. The same happens when I switch from the full close ECC position to full open one.

Any hints? Is this normal? I controlled everything and the LBS double checked and everything seems to be alright...

Your shifter/brake cables slapping against each other. Nothing to do with the fork.

spring noise, all z1's have it. if it bothers you much, wrap some old tubes around the springs.

It's the SL which uses air springs. Sounds like the fork it topping out. Put the maximum allowable amount of air in the negative chamber.
