Young people are stupid, I'm sure they'll find some more. Sign up for college loans, participate in red bull, etc...

So less than two weeks ago we got the notice James Doerfling was bailing out of the Rampage, with Bas Van Steenbergen stepping in.

Now Aggy drops it too:

Guys are arriving to it after a long, hard year. Seems like it's too late in the season to have contenders in optimal shape.
If it was earlier in the year you would have less people competing. The heat would be a problem but most guys on the FMB circuit and DH racers would not risk injury mid season

soon: the isolated states of america
Are you suggesting someone is learning from history since the years of pre XX century isolationism worked well for the US. Not that it work now so that suggests they are pretty bad at coming to resonable conclusions from the data they know ;)

Sucks, but it's hardly the fault of the current nut job administration that he needs a visa in order to compete. I don't expect his plan of just flying in will work out too well, last time I checked they had computers and the internet at immigration. Plus, US immigration and customs are some of the biggest dickbags on the planet, surprisingly closely followed by Canadians.

It didn’t work according to Barellis comments on Pinkbike. Good chance he’ll never get back in now after being denied twice. And yeah, the few times I’ve crossed into Canada, I was surprised the level of douche bagness from customs.

In hell. Welcome!
and figuring out which kind you need is kind of a game of whack a mole.
It isn't. What is confusing is that the application and enforcement of laws and regulations is generally creative in the US, depending on what the heads of the agencies feel like doing at the moment. Kinda feels like a lawless system with arbitrary decisions du jour.

I have gone and worked for short periods of time in a handful of foreign countries under the idea that I was providing training or troubleshooting services of products purchased. We have hoards of people working here for projects under the same concept. If this isn't a legal practice it is news to me. If this is no longer allowable it will drive up costs for manufacturing infrastructure and drastically favor larger international corporations that have a strong local presence in all international markets.

It is a bit different for performers and for workers on a business trip.
OTOH, a former colleague of mine got rejected at the US border and escorted back in a plane to EU for mentioning that he is going to participate in an internal training at the US office. That happened deep in Obama's presidency so these issues are nothing new.

When I was working in Japan I would just mention "Mitsubishi" and would get grand smiles and welcoming nods from customs.

When I went to England I simply stated that I was an American and got welcomed into the country with no explanation while some darker skinned passengers from the Caribbean got grilled about their business interests within the country.

Sorry but if you're a non american and you roll up to the US border and say you're doing anything work related and you don't have a visa you'll get bounced. You're allowed to attend meetings, but if you phrase anything in the terms of work and you're not getting in. Had many co-workers make that mistake that it was well versed around the plant that when you get asked it's "just meetings".

I understand the visa issues but why'd they have to do that to Brendog? Couldn't they have just put him on a flight back instead of hacking his leg up?

Also, I work in a field that's saturated with "big data" and "predictive analytics" pitches, so if we could keep that crap off a biking forum that would be great. That stokes an irrational anger in me and I'm not used to having to drink this early in the morning.

I hear you! I'm in the same boat. Sorry for bringing the crap to one of our few resting places.
