Real Dorado A-C height?

I know the Answer site says 542.5mm but i have a hard time believing it's that short. Does anyone have the measurement of the forks A-C with a short crown or large crown? I have a 147mm stack height on my V-10 with CK headset. I suppose i could run a Dorado with a large crown and run 30mm of spacers but i dont know if thats safe. Anyone know what my HA on a new V-10 would be with a Dorado DH 180mm? Thanks.

i thought a while back that someone determined it was actually 170mm positive travel, and 10mm negative.

I don't know if that's true, but it might be worth checking as well.

Thanks. I'll make sure to holler at the Answer Techs. tomorrow.

i think that 542 figure sounds about right, i measured one not long ago and it was thereabouts, cant remember exactly but lower than a 7" boxxer and very close to a 130mm z1. travel was around 170.

Dayum, anyone know what a new V-10s HA would be with that short of a fork?

Also, Jm, since i respect your opinion should i go for a WB DH 2.0 since a Dorado is going to give me a super steep ~68* HA or maybe even a 888 Works?

wont be that bad really, its only a couple mm`s shorter than a boxxer and i built one up with a 7" boxxer, posted some pics actually too.

edit: i know a friend of mine is modding dorados removing negative stack and thus increasing travel but i cant remember if that stretches the fork. worth looking into if youre concerned about HA, supposedly the mod is harmless and with no major side effects.

well, if the 888 has the new "lowrider" crowns, then that seems like a good option, but personally I wouldn't put a fork that is 1-1.5" higher than it needs to be on my bike (the stock 888). White brothers uses a closed cartridge, but their new forks are getting good reviews. I'd ask the WB-clique (they are here on this site!). They have a new 8" fork that while not stupid light, looks like a winner.

I've heard a few times that the dorado was only 170mm and 10mm positive. The TPC+ works well, but it's still only a "semi-open" bath, and lubrication has been a problem in the past.

I don't have a lot of experience with either fork though, I've owed manitous and used WBs, but not enough time on the dorado or equivalent WB fork to really say anything conclusive.

Ask the WB users.

Hahah, probably the best response i've ever had either here or RM. Cost also comes into a factor considering Dorado EP is more than WB cost. Any news on the '05 WB stuff? VV?

the 05 wb stuff

05 2.0
longer stanchions, in turn this means more bushing overlap, less bushing wear, stiffer fork.
longer stanchion also means bigger cartridge (stanchion doubles as cartridge) and more oil volume, less oil expansion means a more reliable hydraulic system.
i think the crowns are also new but dont know much about them
the spring side has been reworked totally and now has a 3 position progressivity (via air volume) adjust and probably more features that i dont remember.
weight is supposed to be sub 4 kilo or actually around 3.8.
travel is 200mm (probably more if previous years tradition holds true)
msrp 1375

05 dhr
this is a right side up dh race fork, based on the 32mm thruaxle chassis of the DT series forks.
damper cartridge is similar to the one found in the 1.8, which means a closed cartridge with a floating piston inside for volume compensation
spring is a dual air affair, will be really interesting to see how they pull this one off, im a big fan of that sort of things.
travel is 170mm.
msrp is 1150usd
availability from jan 15 estimated
preliminary weight figure is 5,3lbs

Eeek, thats like 8.4lbs. .65 lbs heavier than a 888 Works. The never ending pendulum.
