I have an XT rear derailleur that has been used a season or two. Numerous times the spring has come unhooked. I've had a shop put the spring back in once, and I've popped it in a few times. Do I just needed a new spring, and can I purchase just a spring, or do I need to get a whole new derailleur? Thanks in advance.

The P-tension spring (pulls the cage backwards, tensioning the chain via the lower pulley?) Sometimes you can bend a tighter "hook" at the end of the spring, making it go past 90deg. if you know what I'm getting at. If you've shanked out the hole that the spring pokes into though, you're pretty much stuffed. Find a new der. cage or a new der. if you don't have spare parts kicking around. I keep every derailleur I blow up, for this reason.
