Does anyone make a bolt-on axle for a rear bulb hub? I know they make a 12mm downhill T.A., but i need it for a regular QR type frame. Since the bulb can fit a 12mm DH axle, would I be able to use an Azonic or Atom Lab 12-10mm bolt-on? Anyone know?
Get yourself an old school shimano quick release, with the knurled steel nuts. Set as tight as you can by hand, they grip tighter than cheapo BMX style nuts on a threaded axle unless you're using track nuts (with the built in knurled washer) and a BIG wrench. Especially on an aluminum frame, you shouldn't have a problem.
Yes they do. I converted my QR to 12mm TA. That was all they offered.
I busted the crap out of mine trying to get the old axle out and the new one in. Ended up paying Hope to do it for me. Thank god they are in Cali and respond quickly. Their customer service is excellent (atleast from my side).
So I went & ordered one of these Azonic 12-to-10mm bolt-on axles. Now if I could just get the original 10mm QR axle off my Hope Bulb, then I would be set to go. It seems extremely pressed on. I took off the cassetee and found no tiny allenbolt like most other manufacturers use. Anybody have any idea how to get it off myself without damaging any parts?
Good luck at getting it out. Hope monkey's told me the same thing (switching from QR to 12mm TA). "it just pops out". Well it didn't. I had to send my wheel to them after butcher'ing the QR axle and couldn't get the 12mm to push in. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it. You have to basicly use a hammer and a drift and smack the stupid thing out. Once I got it out getting the new one in was just as much of a PITA. Hope was cool about doing it but man that's the last time I try to dick with the press fit axle/bearing deal again.
