I am thinking about putting a Romic shock on a K2 Evo. The stock Noleen NR2 shock has an eye to eye measurement on 7.9 ", and a stroke of 1.9 ".

Romic makes a stock sized shock of 8.0" eye to eye, and a stroke of 2.5".

My question is this: Will this work?

I'm not looking for more travel, but in theory shouldn't I gain some beacuse the shock will compress .6" than stock, which should move the rear wheel .6"(x) more distance along its axis.

That said I am off base or will the added stroke on the shock mess up everything and cause parts to move and hit where they shouldn't?

Thanks

Rob

Um, well, they don't make shocks measured to the tenth of an inch.. Your shock is an 8.0" eye to eye with a 2" stroke. As far as travel is concerned, well, of course you WILL get more travel, but you might want to pull the shock off your bike and check out all the linkage to make sure nothing will hit.

I think Romic will make any size you need, though, so call them and ask about getting an 8" i2i with a 2" stroke, I bet they'll be able to hook you up.

Going from 1.9 to 2.5 is a big change. and it may make your BB height higher, but on bottoming out it may pull the chain and linkage too much. i'd pull the shock out and see how much room you have.
I would also call both companies and ask them what they think.

The numbers I have are from K2.

Not that it matters but, OEM shocks come however the company orders them. If K2 were looking for 5" of travel with the pivot being where it is they would spec the Noleen shock (owned by K2) custom to get the desired travel. It's all a matter of cutting the shaft to length, that is why mine is an odd ball size...

That said, I'm going to call Romic in the morning and see what they say. I'm hopefull it will work, I know Stratos makes a shock that fits too, but I am really hoping for a new generation shock. I have read that the Romics and Progressives transform single pivot bikes in to super machines...

your best bet is to take the existing shock off and see if upon full compression, meaning 8,0 minus 2,5 inches, anything touches or goes wrong

two things to add though

the romic 8.0 inch shock is AFAIK 2,25 stroke
their 2,5 stroke unit is a 8,75 i2i

there might be a problem with your linkage going very regressive at the end of the travel , esp if it really is 2,5 stroke

happy frankensteining!
