ive got some reaally bad play in the rear mount for my 5th element on my v10. the bushings have been replaced and it still moves, im pretty sure the eyelet of the shock is worn out. what should i do?
While this shouldn't be an issue, check to see that your bolts aren't bottoming out on themselves on the shock mount. Just because they are tight doesn't necessarily mean they are doing their job. To check, measure the smooth part of your shock bolt (before the threads) and make sure it's smaller than the width of your lower shock mount (shorter by 5mm or so is good). If it isn't, head to the hardware store and buy yourself an appropriately sized heat-treated/hardened steel bolt (or Ti if you have a fancy hardware store & want to save weight).
This may be the issue as I have never seen (and only heard of once) a shock eyelet becoming ovaled from regular use. Now if this shock has been involved in a crash where the shock bolt was bent.....it is possible your eyelet is damaged. If your bushing easily slides in without a bushing press / socket wrench & vise, it's a dead give-away that your eyelet is fried. If it is, you may or may not be out of luck. Progressive is no longer making or servicing shocks, however, LBS suppliers like QBP are providing shock rebuild services for 5th Element shocks. I don't know however if they have parts other than internal parts, have your LBS check for you if that is the case. If not, time for a new shock.
