I bought the Swinger 4way three months ago (for my Stinky) and I'm still impressed.
- for big drops --> the SPV volume adjuster works great for anti-bottoming, I turn the 16mm volume adjuster 4 turns in and have never bottomed since.
- for Dirtjumps --> set the Psi at +80% of your body weight and it feels great, even on steep (BMX style) dirtjumps, you get that "snap" of the lip.
- for DH --> I ride with a more linear setting : volume adjuster 0.5 turn in and 60% of my body weight and you have more small bump sensitivity.
The reason why I choose the swinger over the 5th was because of the ‘dead feel’ and the ‘fastest’ rebound setting of the 5th is way too slow for me.
(The Avy was too expensive)
The 4 way is a very versatile shock and it works as advertised and isn't that expensive
Can’t say much about durability because it's only three months old.
It fits and the BigHit has a suspension rate adjustment allready (Progressiveness is the main reason a 5th/swinger performs better for DH than a Fox IMO).
Avalanches are the ultimate shock for DH but are suited to linkage bikes with a rising suspension rate (like a bighit).
"fairly big drops, jumps, downhill, and a little bit of dirt jumping"
I think you'll find the avalanche is the best option its very durable and has the more consitent feeling suspension for dirtjumping than SPV shocks.
My expirence has been that other shocks performance drops off pretty quickly between rebuilds where as the avalanche feels freshly rebuilt even way past its rebuild shedule.
