I'm thinking of getting a swinger 6 way (or 4 way) for my 2002 Giant AC Air, it currently has a rock shox sid XC and i DH with the bike so a new rear shock is needed (also i'm getting the new plates from BETD) any ideas suggestions etc

Sounds good to me, man. Just contact Giant and BETD to make sure you get the correct shock (eye-to-eye length and stroke length). A Swinger shock will make the bike pedal better too.

That's correct.

I would recommend against getting the BETD plates though.

The simple truth of the matter is you're riding a ~6lb. light freeride bike. It was just not intended to be ridden as a DH bike, which is what you'll be doing with all of the extra travel. I looked into these plates as well but just came to the conclusion that it's not worth it when one day the headtube shears off because I did a drop that 8" of travel allows me to do.

Buy the swinger - it's a good shock. Then use the bike for what it's intended. Then, when you have money, buy a DH bike. Don't try and make a 6lb frame that's not even warrentied for a DC fork into a big travel downhill rig - sure, some people do it, and some people have good luck. But when you put stresses on a frame that it wasn't designed to take, eventually it will break - it's a matter of when, not if.

well i've been riding it as a DH rig (with a shiver SC up front) and doin all the DH stuff i would be wit a DH rig, so i just wanted a lil more cushion i def need a new rear tho (the BETD plates are only 7 or 7.5 in of travel)
