Hello to everyone, I am new to the fourum and appriciate any assistance that
you all my offer me, and others who are having the same difficulty.

I picked up moth-balled 02 Stab Primo frame that was never built and am in
the process of finishing it out

It has a brand new 02 Fox Vanilla RC on it. The spring it came with is a Fox
500# x 2.8

I need like a 600 to 700 pounder what ever I can get a hold of.

I seems they rarerly offer one that is stiff enough in my dimentions.

Keep in mind since this is the 02 RC the spring I.D. is smaller than the current
line of DHX and I do belive 07 and later Van RC, thus making availibility
a bit of a challenge. All the techs want to sell me a DHX/Vanilla spring and
do not realize that it won't fit, and the product listings seem to be outdated
(I realize 2002 in MTB years means like 1902 in reality)

I really do not want to shell out the cash for a new DHX, and have to get a
spring for it too. Also it is a short frame and the shockbody and spring to
frame clearance MAY be an issue. It is already tight with the 02 RC in there.

So here it is:
2.75 stroke 70mm
8.75 eye to eye 222mm
Coil Inner Diamater 1.25 inches 32mm
free lenghth 5.45 inches 140mm but room for more

Looks like a Rockshox Vivid coil may fit ?
Best I could find was a 600# from England.

Any leads on compatibility and availability/suppliers will be greatly appriciated.

Thanks in advance, RM is the goto spot !

the dhx springs are only slightly larger in diameter, as far as i know they work fine on RC (my rc has a swinger spring on it and my friends rc has a dhx spring on it)

What is you weight? How much travel does that Stab Primo have?Where are you.I have a 550x2.8 from an 01' Vanilla. But if that is to light I would call around to shops that specialize in DH someone should have something lying around.

I called fox direct which I did not want to do. I personally know many people
who have had great expiriences dealing with them, but I had not been so
lucky. So I buried the hatchet so to speak and gave them a call.
I told him what spring size and weight I needed, year shock and explained
about the diamater issue. He also agreed the diamater was different on
the springs.

It was easy to place the order, but the 5 day shipping was more like 10

When the spring came it was the larger diamater like a new DHX.

The freelength was longer and bareley fit on, which is sweet.
The spring comes HELLA close to the piggy back resivoir, and can actually
touch the resivoir if you push the spring towards it.
It is tight on the frame but no issues apparently.

Took the unit into my LBS (these guys are good) and he says it would be
no problem, however the collar that adjusts the preload could be a problem
as it may hit the upper inside of the piggyback resivoir. In otherwords
the grey metal part above the canister. But with about 2 turns of preload
it puts the collar right in the sweet spot.

Needless to say it is a TIGHT fit and looks friggin SICK !

I plan to do some DH in 2 weeks and ride her for the first time. I will post up
and let you all know if it works or not.

Oh yeah .... Thanks ALex M looks like it will work !

DH Racer I weigh 160, but like it stiff, so the 550 wont work The stab is
adjustable from 8 to 9 via axel wheelbase adjustment.
I am down in the dirty south Florida so there are no shops that specialize in
DH. I am just the local freak show for the rodies an xc'ers

Thanks for the offer.

The larger coil performed better than I could have anticipated.

No issues at all and the 700# seems to be a perfect match for the 888 on it

Going back north in 3 weeks, cannot wait to ride

If any issuses develope in the future I'll post up but as it stands now the
larger FOX coils seem to be compatible with the older shorter skinnier ones.
