SOme things to consider. Even if the bike can be modified to get more travel it often:
Raises the BB
Steepens the steering angle
Puts undo stress on bikes not designed for the extra travel
Sometimes changes the leverage ratio negatively
I came from the days of converted XC FS rigs for DH bikes.....it messes with things.
Is their a greater benefit to the extra 1" of travel over the cost of doing it? I have yet to see it. It costs you $$$ it costs you geometry and it costs you reliability.
