How is rear wheel travel measured? Is it vertical displacement from full extension to full compression of the shock, or is it the distance travelled along the path of the wheel from extension to compression? Just wondering if there's a standard by which companies post the amount of travel their bikes get.

Personally I measure everything by complete vertical wheel travel from full extension.

ive seen people measure like dw does

then theres A-B distance where A is axle under full extension to B axle under bottom out

and distance travelled by the axle

dw`s method makes for the shortest measurement

a-b makes for the most accurate comparisons

the last method gives the biggest measurement especially if the axle path is funky.

not sure about what method is better suited for comparing and that gives the most meaningful reading, but i think its either vertical or a-b.

Good to know that DW. what would you say the majority of other companies use? (not to name names) Im sure youve studied many other frames out there.....

a vertical reference is just the easiest IMO, since you can just stick to y-coordinates as a simple reference frame, especially for other stuff like sag points or any other measurements your taking
