OK all you hub gurus... this is a DT Swiss Onyx rear hub.

I've had some drag in my freewheel for a while. Today, while cleaning things up, I got my rear hub more apart than I was expecting. So here's what I'm looking at...

I half paid attention while Echo and sq-earl rebuilt a hub last summer, so I have a very vague recollection of all this. I'm pretty sure I could get in there with some degreaser and a rag/tooth brush and get everything cleaned out, but I also recall there being some rather delicate parts in here.

What do I need to be careful with and/or pay extra attention to when I start cleaning all that grime out of there?

I suspect the bearings will need some before this all goes back together, no? I have some lube, but no grease - is it worth buying grease for this? If so, any particular kind? I can probably just head down to the LBS, tell them what I'm doing, then buy whatever they recommend (I generally trust them)... but I thought I'd get your input first. Anything besides the bearings need to be greased/lubed before I put it all back together (those little ratcheting teeth, perhaps)?

Thanks fellers.

I got it all cleaned out, greased and rebuilt. The drag seems to be gone and it makes MUCH less noise than it did before. I rode it around the yard a few times and everything seems to be working fine.

It was far less complicated than I was expecting... assuming I didn't miss anything.
