Shimano or old style Hayes.
I 2nd those. Both will give you good performance at a decent cost.
For the price they are pretty good. But if you could find a used set of Hayes Mag brakes they would be much better.

dont the new mag and hfx from hayes have the same caliper? that g2 thingy? why do you need hydro? the avid mechs work pretty well...

Shimano deores for their price are a great brake. If you want to buy new and not spend a lot of money they would def be a great choice.

I just got some used M4's and they are frickin awesome but still pricey. But hands down the best brakes I've used.

Price point has xt s for 65. I rode these for awhile and there where good brakes, I never really had any problems with them. I just switched to some used m4s. They feel much better at the lever allthough I wouldnt say the modulation is any better just different.
