I am in the market for a PDA or Palm Pilot or whatever they are called. I really know absolutely nothing about them.
I want it for work. The rulebook that I have to carry for work is in a binder about 4 inches thick and it takes up a lot of room and is heavy. I can download the rulebook from my company's website and transfer it to the PDA.
I would like to be able to put music and some games on it, as well.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Get a Blackberry, its cheaper and more useful than a Palm or Windows PDA with the mature wireless email push technology and decent internet browser. You can sync it with your PIM (ie Outlook) too. I've never felt PDAs were all that useful. I've had or played with Newtons, Palms, Treos, and Dell Axims, but I still like the Blackberry better.

my advice is:
save your money, and just get a pen.

i got one many years ago, didnot saw much use. then i tried really hard to put it use.. but it was impractical for most of my needs. it was pretty much a novelty.

 I agree. My father got me a palm pilot for my HS graduation several years ago. The thing has sat in a box in my closet since half-way through my first college semester. Day planner and a pencil is where it's at.

Edit: Sorry for the useless post.

I'm not really concerned with email or internet capabilities, mainly just the rulebook and music.
I work for a railroad and I use the rulebook all the time, but its a pain in the butt lugging around this big, heavy binder. Especially getting on and off trains. I carry my laptop with me sometimes, but it's just as big and heavy as the book.

Find or put the rulebook on the web and use the web browser on the blackberry. Get a real dedicated mp3player instead - ie Apple nano or Sandisk e-series - would work way better and free up storage for other applications/data on your mobile device.

ive gone through a few hp ipaqs over the years and have been pretty happy with them. currently have the 6515 which is my cellphone as well right now. fast cpu, decent ram, expandable memory, good battery life. how much you looking to spend?

the palm zire and tungsten series are bulletproof, most corporations throw those out to employees to you gotta figure they are reliable. go to circuit city, staples, best buy, etc, and play around. for what you want you shouldnt need to spend over $200.

I have and Ipaq 6500 series too. I love it.. I am alwatys usuing it.
it holds movies, pictures great for reminders, usues outlook which can be in sync with your PC. I even put TomTom navigation system on mine. seriously I dont know how id get along with out in sometimes...of course work got it for me so its even better.
I use it to do all my reports in the field, then get back to the office ands upload them to my comp and print them.
It also has a strong Wifi and picks up plenty of wireless signals to go online with..If work didnt give it to me Id get one anyway.. worth every penny

I'm using the Motorola Q, I prefer it over the Blackberry. However I do like the battery life of the Blackberry better. I do like the Windows feature of the Q and it's easier to use.

Same here.

I got an HP Ipaq I'll sell you cheap. I've only ever used it to play the cheap imitation version of tetris that came installed on it.

I used a few of them through college. They were useful for loogging onto my 2 schools humongous wifi networks in class, in hallways etc, but not needing to carry a laptop. Games were rather limited, but I used it as an MP3 players for years. No point in carrying multiple devices if you can get away with one.

I had a 1 hour public transport commute each way, and it was amazing with avant go on it. I had tons of daily news and magazine articles refreshed for me each morning. I could read all of the ay there and back. I also routinely downloaded word and pdf files for assignments, reading etc to it and got work done while commuting, listening to music and blocking out the world.

The newer dell axims should be pretty good. The older one I had was the best of the bunch at the time. Dell sucked with the windows updates for it however.
