Around here, Bitys are cheaper than most IPAs and specialty beers and the not so tasty fancy shitaqua. I'm pretty lucky having Bayern in my hood. Their Helles rocks and I get short pours for $20/case. I occasionally get Bitburger or Lite but I mainly stick to Pilsner and Helles with their seasonal offerings sprinkled in. I used to like IPAs but now they screw up my gut.
An excellent, local, helles style ale that isn't all MURICAN'ed up. Pours clear, tastes light, it's absolutely wonderful. Not as heavy as Jack's abby, and not so expensive that you're paying microbrew tax. Stupid good.
How about beer(s) that go well with a brat, not a lame ass boiled brat, a grilled brat on a puddle Lowensenf mustard with a side of kraut. Pilsners for prep swillin and a doppel weizen or 2 with the meal. With the prevalence of the easy to brews ales in the US, a good German brewery might be hard to find so hit up a good liquor store for the goodies and good luck!
