No hotels aren't cheap, they are very limited and probably already booked up (unless you want to drive an hour each day to and from). Yes you can camp but who knows what the weather will be? Could be hotter'n'ell or freezing. If I go this year I'll probably either car-camp or try to get favors repaid for letting people crash on my hotel room floor from last year.

Check Hurricane, UT for hotel rooms; they're more plentiful and usually cheaper than in Springdale. St. George isn't that far, either. There's truckloads of free camping, however. It's a lot easier having to only worry about not stumbling into the campfire after a night of drinking than driving back to a hotel room.

Weather? If it's hot, camp up at Gooseberry. If it's cold, drink more. :D

BYU? Now THAT'S a hell of a long drive, for sure. And I'm not only talking geographical distance. ;)

Yikes, that's like a 6 hour drive each way, I know I did it in 2003. I take it you're only planning on seeing one day's events?

We found a hotel room for less than $50 in hurricane, I think I booked it about a month in advance online, it seems like it was a motel 6 or super 8 or maybe a travelodge. St. George really isn't that far, nor is Cedar City, both sit about an hour away on an open stretch of desert highway, St. George has dozens of hotels, stay away from the Hamptonthough, the beds are really uncomfortable, really uncomfortable, I think sleeping on the floor would be better.

Looks like im camping prolly, Camped at havasu when its 100 at night and at mammoth when its below freezing, so it shouldnt be too bad. Can you camp right at the bottom of the red bull event>?

Yup. ....Well, actually, you need to walk ~20ft to the other side of the road, but...you get the idea. :)

Honestly, the weather should - in all likelyhood - be beautiful. We've had it exceptionally nice up here in Salt Lake, and though there have been some roving showers in S. Utah of late, the season generally favors pretty dry conditions.

Here's this morning in the Wasatch mtns. Between Millcreek and Big Cottonwood Canyons, Salt Lake. Good stuff for October!

We will be and there staying in springdale. I plan on becoming the town drunk for the weekend :) .
You'll have to outdrink an awful lot of locals to pull that off. :p

Bring your wet gear people, we're in the middle of the most rain we've had in 6 years and it doesn't promise to get much better by Rampage. Hope they don't cancel......

I've got a roll of film from two years ago that needs to be developed, maybe I'll get that done since I can't be at rampage and I'll just post them as if they were from this year.

isn't there lots of camping in Zion, on the Springdale side of the park? that's where we camped this summer when i went and rode in Virgin. Springdale has a few public showers that some of us used.

Meh, more like three hours but the drive sucks. It's very, very boring in central Utah.

You STILL haven't developed that roll?

Man, just send it to me and I'll get it done. Consider it an early birthday present. :D

Some action from 2002. I'm sure this year will be even better. HAVE FUN everyone!!!

I am here in Cedar City UT. It is about 40 minutes from Virgin, but I drive fast. Anyway it has been cold and rainy for 3 bays. Brianhead the ski resort already has a 42" snow base in 3 days. According to the radar I have seen it has been raining in the Virgin Rockville area as well. As of now the weather sucks.

Your avatar is nothing compared to the formations their marching band does.

Let's see so far they have:

Spelled out curse words while in formation.

One formation depicted a hand giving the middle finger

and many more things I can't remember off the top of my head.

I'm not joking about this either.

This is the last one in Virgin for sure. Not sure if they'll move it or not. This years finals course is new for this year though. Qualifiers is on last years finals course.

Forget Brian Head Mikey. :(

The weather down here has cleared up some though, let's hope it holds.

There's literally unlimited amounts of camping around here.

Yeah! I went skiing at brianhead today. That is like 5 minutes from blowhard. Unless you like pedaling in a crapload of super heavy snow it probably wouldn't be to fun. Last time I rode it in the season though it was pretty fun. But now you could do it on some telemark skis.

You can always ride gooseberry mesa if the slopes are covered in snow, I had more fun riding there than riding moab. Since it's only like an 8 mile loop you can session stuff all along the way and still make it back before the sun goes down.

Yeah, there's plenty of riding without Brian Head...in fact, the trip will be less hectic now...but BH is my favorite riding up there. Blowhard is just the coolest trail ever. It's not very hard or anything, but it's just so fast and flowy and amazingly beautiful and LONG...alas, alas.

Donnie, don't fret, as we'll still hit some awesome, awesome riding. Or we can rent snowmobiles.

I am still undecided. I got an email from the redbull staff explaining how much of a zoo it is going to be.

If I go I will be there Friday and Saturday and not sunday. Keep your eyes peeled for me..

it's always a zoo. hopefully they actually enforce the kicking out of people who are abusing their "media" status. it's so hard to control in that place, but riders and safety should always have priority over ANYONE trying get the "shot" at an event like this.

i hope it rains...that'd be interesting to say the least.

There is better riding in the Zion/Gooseberry/Virgin area than there is in the Brianhead area. Timberline at Brianhead is a really fun trail but it is on the ski slopes in the summer so I can guarantee you that you won't be riding that trail. Stay in the Virgin area. You guys can find plenty of cool stuff to ride down there.

Yeh, I'm pretty familiar with it all; I just like to make BH a part of my visits to the area...we'll be hitting up all the rest of it, I assure ya... :)
