pretty sure that the redrum that rockshox recomends to use is really nothing more than the transmission fluid that you put in your car or truck.from talking to guys that have done suspension work on dirtbikes and snowmobiles that transmission fluid is 5w oil and is used in certain suspension applications.not sure what marzoochi recommends for replacement in their forks but i used bel-ray 10w fork oil that i bought from the dirt bike shop on my 02 shiver dc and it worked out just fine.i think the cost of 1or2 oz's of redrum is about the same as 1qt of transmission fluid.

The redrum I have at home ain't no 5 weight. More like 80weight. I suspect its chainsaw chain oil. That stuff is red thick and sticky so it sticks to the chainsaw blade while in use. Syncros used to sell chain lube which came in 3 grades and it was chainsaw oil.
Someone showed me a bottle of redrum, peeled off the label, and below the label "Torco Engine Assembly Lube".
Red rum is a lube you run in your Sid and Judy forks, not your Ford F150's tranny! Its extremely think, like mentioned around the 80 Wt mark.

RockShox manuals say to use a film of Redrum when assembling parts, not as damping oil.
Torco Engine Assembly Lube would seem to be in the same class of substances:
"A high viscosity lubricant with exceptional adhesive and cohesive strength for protection against scuffing, galling and seizure. MPZ wear protection chemistry is composed of liquid moly, phosphorus and zinc. These materials are accepted and used by engine manufactures throughout the world in factory-fill motor oils for break-in of new engines."

pretty sure transmission fluid will eat the seals since it will eat paint.
Bingo! Remember the old Rock Shox RS1 anyone....how the seals were horrible and the paint around them lasted ummmmm a year? ATF has seal swellers in it too. My advise in that situation. If your stuck using old technology cause your stingy cheap or just a wiener for that. Switch to the Answer Pro Forx. Identical parts. just doesnt use ATF. and it looks cooler!
