I have 2 refrigerators, neither of which are working right.

One does not cool enough, to the point where things go bad. I no longer use, of course. It's just sitting there unplugged.

The other was working fine up until recently, but now just serves as a giant freezer. It is on minimum setting, but is still too cold.

What's the deal?

I'm curious what can be done with a fridge that doesn't cool anymore. Is this typically terminal for a fridge? Or is it reparable.

I plan of trading them both in for another used one. Just curious what I should expect to get for the one that doesn't cool anymore...

Thanks.

You should cut one side off of each and weld them together to make one fully functional ultimo-fridge.
Or just put your food beneath the perma frost. You do live in Canada.

What is the "wel-ding" techmology of which you speak?

And up here, we just call it "frost".

My question is: Is a fridge that doesn't cool anymore worth anything? I want to know if the shop I'm trading it in with is ripping me off or not. I figure it's still worth AT LEAST one beaver pelt.

If your fridge isn't fridging, it's likely due to either being low on freon, the compressor is not circulating the freon properly, or one of the heat exchangers is not exchanging heat like it should.... but most likley a small gnome or dwarf is living in it causing it to malfunction

Most likely, the regulator on the one that is too cold is gone. Something like that anyway. They normally just replace those with that problem. The non cold enough one may have a poorly functioning compressor or a relay that is not working properly. Also probably ready for the dump unless it's just the relay.
