Now I've heard some good theories on religion...but none like this. It's from George Carlin (yes it really is his stuff - I saw it on HBO over the weekend and just did a google search). I just find it totally hilarious and it makes you think twice about exactly what we are praying to. Now before you jump on me, I'm not promoting or rejecting any religion, just that I find this a unique angle. He precludes this by talking about all kinds of bull**** from politics to business before leading into the 'king of bs'. Try to read it in the way GC would say it...Enjoy.

"In the Bull**** Department, a businessman can't hold a candle to a clergyman. 'Cause I gotta tell you the truth, folks. When it comes to bull****, big-time, major league bull****, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims: religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bull**** story ever told.
Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you.

He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bull**** story. Holy ****!"

That's pretty good.

Did you happen to see the one that Pen & Teller did?

Really good stuff, but they took quotes from the Bible.

Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

george carlin is a grumpy old man with a grumpy old routine. He needs to retire. His stuff was good a decade ago... now he's becoming a joke of himself.

Actually the only promise we have we can't prove (the whole eternal life thing in God's Kingdom), so how can he assert these are false promises, how does he know they are false.

Wow, George Carlin has just demonstrated his ignorance of Judaism and Christianity. HHHHHmmmmmm, let me think, who do I want to get my theology or life philosophy from...........let me think................aaaaaaaahhhhhhh yes a comedian, that's the ticket...........

Again, George demonstrates his ignorance of the subject with which he is claiming to have some knowledge of. In the context of the 10 commandments he talks about, how do they start?? With grace............you never hear that one do you??

No the TV evangelist need the $ not God, the Scritpures are crystal clear on that. Most (not all but most) pastors won't tell you that the whole tithe thing is not mandatory for a Christian according to the Bible.

Anyway, bless little Georges heart, he's shooting his mouth off about a subject he clearly has little knowledge of...........in the end it just makes him look like a hateful little man.

the way I look at it is...

Prove to me there is no God, and I'll prove to you there is.

everyone here, so far has been civil, which is good... it's the way it should be... but before some little pre-pubescent 14 yo gets up and starts spouting off how he's the new upcoming delegate for supreme ruler of the New Church Of Satan.... let me just say....

It's funny... granted, I'll admit there some whacked out fanaticals out there allegedly crusading for Christ, what's the difference in someone trying to tell people about God as opposed to someone trying to tell people there is no God? (other than you never really hear crap about about the people who are crusading for the "No God Theory"

You know, if believing in something you can't see gets you through the tough times, then hey, more power to you. If believing that there is nothing after death and that this is only shot you've got, then hey, more power to you.

I've never understood why people (on both sides) have to bag on each other and so on? what purpose does it serve? what point does it make? (other than your squabbling mind has nothing better to do than put others down to make yourself look bettter... and yes, that goes for BOTH sides)

Back to my original statement... You can't prove to me that there is no God, anymore than I can prove to you that there is... so, live and let live. to each their own.

okay... let the rukus begin.

(the preceeding message has been brought to you by the fine folks at the Can't We All Just Get Along foundation) :D

Oh I know it's a joke, my point was not offense at George, I could care less at what he says, my point was he has no clue about what he's joking about. Sadly because of that it makes him look uuuuuuuuuummmmmm...........rather stupid.

Since when are comics supposed to be experts on the topics they joke about?

On the other hand Andyman, I seriously like some of the points you made in the other thread about the Catholic  Church

but it's not comedy. George Carlin needs to stop pretending he's funny. The guy sucks.
