I remember my first crash on a bicycle. I still have the scar on my chin. I was 5, hit a sewer grate, and went over the handlebars chin first into the ground.
Mountain biking, don't remember. I do remember the crash that brought me to mountain biking. I had an Alan cyclocross bike in 1986 that I jumped and snapped the fork off at the headtube on the way to class one day. That brought about the purchase of my first mountain bike.
I've never had a big crash on a mountain bike. I've had a number of little crashes, but nothing big. I think the worst I've had is a slow-mo endo going *up* a hill and whacking my lip.
The first real crash that was not doing something dumb as a kid was on my good old Royce Union. I was hauling ass down a big downhill when the stem decided to twist independently of the fork. I went OTB and tore skin off of my shoulder, face, abdomen, and hand. It was not pretty.
i was riding down a hill at a camp ground when i was young, rode into the bushes, where someone had felled a tree to stop them from driving further. I sacked my nuts on the stem and walked my bike back to the camp ground.
