I just stripped my Specialized BigHit DH frame, the only things I have to remove are the bearings which are in my seatstays... is there an easy way to get them out of the frame?

A little late, I realize...but it's not that easy on the Big Hit. The bearings are paired up, so there's one pressed in on either side of a little flange in the frame. There's an axle going through with a little shoulder in it, so you have to press the axle out, which in turn pushes one of the bearings out. Then you can tap the other one out with a punch or just use the axle again.
It's a true PITA, and it's the only thing stopping me from getting my frame repainted.
I can't imagine that you wouldn't toast the bearings by side-loading them so much in the center...am I wrong?
Ya I wanted to take out my bearings on my IronHorse 2001 SGS DH because I thought they had play in them ,well after disassemby and tinkering with some parts with the SGS rebuild kit It turned out the bearings were still tite . I am very glad I didn't have to get the little skate bearings out of my frame and press in new ones because it wasn't going to be that fun(PITA) due to the spacer lenght in between the two bearings inside. There was no way I could punch them out wiyh a screw driver from the other side with the steel spacer inside.Didn't try thou.Maybe you can't press both them out at one time, there might be a shoulder or frame stopping you,or stick in ametal rod or screwdriver and try to pry the bearing, with QR-20 wheel bearings were easy to replace thou, because all you do is tap the axel and the bearing pushes out. Can't you Just mask over the bearings with tape if you paint the frame, No? Buzz
