I want to remove some grips from a bar while I am at home. I can take to my shop tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone had a tip?

I do want to save the grips, so I can't cut them off either.

Try laying the bike on it's side and pinching the inner part of the grip just enough to get a little water in there. Then try pinching the grip progressively out toward the end to get the water out there. They should break loose after that.

Good one. I will add a little soap to that water as well...

Use rubbing alcohol, not soap. It works great for sliding the grips on too, and the grips won't move after it evaporates.

Even with the air compressor, my WTB grips would not slide off my carbon bar. I just rolled them up into small donuts and I was able to pull them off.

The other grips I took off took 1 second with compressed air...

Depending on what was used for glue (if any...but I have even used hairspray to mount grips in the past) to mount them.....

water does the trick....considering it is the cause of grips comming loose most of the itme anyway :) atleast in WA state. ;)

I have always had this little pick tool....basically a small gauge rod (like a mini screw driver) with a 90 degree "pick" and use that to get in under the grip to put the water in it. You jsut need some moisture. Use a spray bottle and keep your bike in the stand....either way. As soon as the water gets under there just twist the grip off. It will start to let loose and 2 seconds later you have a bare bar.

siloam springs ar.
go to the drug store and get a 1 1/2 inch syringe slide it under the grip without puncturing the grip and inject 1 or 2 cc's of rubbing alcohol or water alcohol works best and drys faster crash decandia

Get a can of WD-40 and a long screw driver. Shove in the screw driver and squirt in the WD and presto the grip slides off and dries just fine. You can even reapply with the WD, it dries pretty quick and the grips stick in place like crazy. Hair spray also works for application.

I just get a cup of water and lay the whole bike over so the end of the handlebar is submerged. Not only do the grips come off real easy once they are soaked, it washes off all the nasty crud from your grips if you're planning to put them back on.

Clean streak or Speed Clean works great for taking of grips and reapplying them. It works way better than hairpray. Just stick a screwdriver between the bar and grip, insert the tube from the solvent bottle between the bar and grip, and spray it. The grip will come right off.
