removing the shell of a bearing

So I am trying to get some new bearings in my pedals but am having some problems because the shell of the bearing is stuck inside..any tips to get it out?

As well as using a drift, some heat might work, or, if it's corrosion between aluminum and steel, ammonia will help loosen that.

you could try some heat, aluminum will expand a lot more than steel and absorb the heat faster. this will also help break any tension but try and knock it out when its hot but before the steel has absorbed much heat. another thing to try would be notch through the race with a dremel. might be a little dicey.
