Their "Christian" part in the "we believe" section they cite Matthew where Jesus answers a rabbi that askes Him what is the most important commandment. Then they list the 10 commandments beneath that..........I wonder if they are confusing the Jewish understanding of commandment (mitzvot, there were 613 in the Torah) which is what Jesus is addressing in Matthew with Exodus 20 and the 10 commandments.

Anyway...........more Christian sites that make me embarassed to share the same word Christian with..........

So is hell an actual teaching of Jesus or just a recruiting tool developed by his marketing department after he died?

I always thought that Dante came up with the classic version of hell we all know and love.

LOL...............good one.

Alot of fundies will tell you Jesus taught on Hell more than any other subject.............well that's kind of true. Jesus only once in the 14-16 times (I can't remember the exact numbers, my fundy brainwashing has been wearing off over the last two years) He mentions Hell does He refer to an actual person in an actual eternal Hell, Luke 16 the rich man and Lazarus. The implication of the story is that the rich man is in Hell because he didn't take care of the poor leper that lived outside is gate (no mention of faith in Jesus.........interesting can of worms I like to throw at my fundy friends)...........anyway.

The majority of the time when Jesus mentions Hell it is a present reality as a by product of how one is living and how one treats others and those who are in need rather than a destination for unbelievers. The same goes for His references to Heaven, very few times is it an eternal destination but a present reality in how people live now.

It's the first thing they mention on the non christians section;

Of all the questions you will ask yourself in life, probably the most important is, Am I good enough to go to Heaven?

The funny thing is Jesus never frames the Gospel in language of "you don't want to go to Hell do you?"...............He never puts Heaven out there like a carrot on a stick.

Kind of what I thought, from my limited bible reading. Hell was intended to describe an environment we create by our actions not a place to be damned for eternity in the afterlife. Seems to me the rest was created by the political/recruiting wings.

They look like FUN!

I was thinking the same thing. They'd be much more fun to hang with than the other guy. The other guy would be all like, "Hey, are you sure you want to go to the bar? It leads to HELL!" Or, "Stop watching that pron or you'll go to HELL!"

Now the the concept of Hell as a place for bad people for eternity is a concept that is not foreign to 2nd Temple Judaism..........but we don't see Jesus spending that much time teaching on it, not as much as the fundies like us to think. He actually teaches more on peoples relationship with one another than He does peoples relationship with God and/or how to get to Heaven when you die.

Creationism Group To Go Door To Door In Dover
POSTED: 12:19 pm EST March 7, 2006
UPDATED: 12:41 pm EST March 7, 2006

DOVER, Pa. -- A Philadelphia-based group that promotes creationism is planning to go door to door in Dover, York County on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Michael Marcavage, the director of the conservative organization Repent America, said his group is visiting Dover because they "want to be where the enemy is diligently attacking."

Last election, Dover voters elected a school board that is against the teaching of intelligent design in biology class.

Intelligent design states that the universe is so complex it must have been designed.

Funny strip..................sadly IMO way too many Christians have that attitude that they are so much "better" that those who don't know Jesus............IMO that's pride.
