Man, that was sweet.
I think it is sick when somebody picks something really hard to do with a disability like that. He could have taken up skateboarding or something, but instead he rocks it out on a bike.
Reminds me of,
Let's see what do you really need 2 arms for. Playing drums.
The drummer from Def Leopard only has one arm, the drummer from Def Leopard only had one arm..........

:stupid:

I think that's the most impressive thing to me. I think the human body is pretty amazing and can overcome all sorts of deficiencies, but most people don't have the dedication and the courage to try.

Stories like this are inspiring not just because he can kick ass with one arm - which is cool in and of itself - but because he actually got off his ass and said "I can do this, and I can do it well" rather than giving up and settling for something less than what he wanted.

"I like to push myself to see where my limits are. Keep pushing and pushing harder and harder and progress as far as I can. I think the sport of mountain biking is progressing really fast and I just want to keep up with it."

Isn't that the truth.

Have you seen the tv commercial where the guy is riding his wheelchair in the skatepark? He's rolling around, actually looking like he's having a blast. Then they show him perched at the edge of the half pipe, looking over the edge. I'm thinking "that can be scary on a bike" ... then he drops in. I was blown away.

I'm not sure of the product or company the commercial was for, but I have a feeling it could have been another "impossible is nothing" Nike ad.

Wow. That's amazing -- I had to ride down B-line in Whistler (the bunny slope) one-handed over the summer and that sh*t is HARD. I nearly bit it a couple times.

As long as you don't drop your beer, a little sketchiness is permissible.

Hell, right after I saw you guys when I was leaving, I fell on B-line with Both hands!!

Damn, major props to Dustin. Really shows how so much of what we do is all in our heads. I only see out of one eye and kind of cringe when people call it a "disability" because for the most part I don't really think about it, I just do my thing. We all need to adapt to different things, whether it's physical, mental, whatever. But having someone tell you that you can't do something can be incredibly motivating.

Interesting, it sounds like Dustin is a better rider than his twin...faster anyway...wonder if he would be as good if he had both arms...?

crashing at a trail near you...
that is definately worthy of HUGE props :thumb: ...this guy actually has the concept of humility...lots and lots of pro atheletes could takea lesson from him.

i can relate to this in a local way. a windsurfer here in my local area has only one real leg and ive seen him at the local break in pre hurricane conditions with gnarly shore break and 40+ mph winds....with ONE FREAKING LEG!!!!

That particular rider is Stacey Kohut, a long time Whistler local and friend of mine and many others. Not only is Stacey an extremely capable rider, he is also a fantastic skier (sit ski), a member of the Whistler/Blackcomb Freeride Team, and has been featured in both ski and MTB movies. I have personally seen him stick an almost fifty foot cliff drop here in Whistler in the winter.

The commercial was for Adidas.

Here is a picture of Stacey styling it up in his usual airborne matter.
