Hello monkeys, I finally got moved into my new apartment downtown and was finally able to bring my XC bike down from NoVA. I haven't been able to ride very much this year, so im anxious to get out on the trails. However, I have little to no knowledge of the trails in this area (ive been to Pocahontas, and I took a spin on the south bank trail this evening). So, this brings me here to ask you monkeys what kind of trails there are in this area?

If anyone around here would be up for a ride sometime, that'd be awesome as well!

Both of those places are good for info.

Best place to start around here, if you are living on or near campus, would be the James River Park System. It's a 10 minute ride from VCU. Head down to Belvedere street, and head south. (Right if you are coming from VCU)

Take Belvedere to Cary Street and hang a left. Take Cary to 5th street and hang a right. Take 5th street to the stop sign in front of the Federal Reserve building. Take a right at that stop sign, and you will be at the Belle Island parking lot. Depending on which way you want to take the loop, you can either go to the parking lot, and go through the "door" in the fence that has a sign that says "James River Park System North Bank Trail" and follow the signs, OR you can go over the footbridge, take a left at the fork, go OVER the bridge that goes over the southside rocks/river, and take that to the railroad tracks. At the tracks, there is a fence. Go right at the fence (there is no where else to go) and follow the little trail to the stairwell. Go up the stairs, over the tracks, and you are at the trailhead for Buttermilk.

This all sounds complicated, but will make sense when you are there.

There is a Google Map with all this info in it. It also shows how you can hook up to Forest Hill Park.

It would be easier to go out with someone who knows the trails, and if you are OK with people who are "slow and methodical" I'd be happy to show you around.

Thanks a lot for the info everyone. That Central Va forum seems like a great resource to finding out what there is to ride around here (ive registered as a member to it in fact).Yeah, im living on broad st. right across from the Siegel ctr. (Coliseum lofts) right now. Ive been down to Belle isle a number of times, so I know mostly where you're talking about. Because ive been busy with school for the past year (going to be starting my second year here at VCU), i haven't really been able to get out and ride much, so im all about the slow and methodical pace, haha.

We can outride you, and THEN out drink you!

(We've got Dart, Cap'n and Ralph in our starting lineup, with Dennis and I ready to step in. There is NO way you can out drink Richmond!)

Well, I may have to step it up and rep it for Richmond. I've become somewhat of a pro lately...

I have to give props to Mancil. He's the first person I've ever seen to drink himself sober.

Please don't refer to me as fecal matter. Thanks.

I am going to be in Northern Virginia tomorrow, I'm painting my moms house, and then going to the Redskins game.
