Whats up monkeys!? I live in Va, but I'll be out in colorado springs (broadmoor hotel) for a medical conference the last weekend in March. Is there any good shops in Co. springs I should look into? What about riding? Let me know!

Not sure what kind of riding your into, but if it's XC or just toodling around some technical stuff on a mtb then I would hit up the Garden of the Gods if I were you. There is a vast variety of types of trails there. Once you're out this way, you'll just look at the mountains and say "let's go up there" and then good things will come to you after that. Afraid I don't know any shops in the Springs, but I'm sure that they're down there.

There's a great ride less than five minutes from the Broadmoor at the top of Cheyenne Canyon. I don't know any of the real names since I was taken by people that didn't know any of them, but if you ride west our of the parking lot you go down the closed road to a trail that leaves to the right at the corner, go up there until it hits a T, take a right and head down, cross upper gold camp road and keep going until you hit a parking lot where you can go left and take the chutes down to Cheyenne Mountain High School or go right to go back to the parking lot at the top of the canyon. The other stuff lower in the canyon isn't as much fun.

i think you mean palmer park; there's only a mile or two of bike trail at GoGs, and it's teh suck w/ all the texans fumbling around snapping off pix & spitting tobacco juice on the trail. palmer has a tightly grouped trail system w/ everything from normal singletrack to some quick & steep sketch (follow your nose down canyons). google for map.

as far as bike shops go, i use http://www.oldtownbikeshop.com/ , and it's conveniently located to the broadmoor. john crandall's the owner & real good guy. not cheap nor fast, but that's what happens when you carry high quality & everyone uses you.

Being from the east coast (middle of it at least..) the end of March means 60-70 degree weather and sunny days. From what I hear, March and April are the worst months for Colorado in terms of snow. Judging by what you all have already been hit with, what are the odd of me going out to said trails near the broadmoor and finding 47 feet of snow?

Also, I wont be able to bring a bike with me and the pics of Cheyenne Canyon look pretty burly as I've never ridden slick rock before (I think that's what it's called) so is there a place that will rent me a bike?

march & april are the most diverse weather months, but not necessarily the worst. today is my 3rd day riding to work, & i'm a huge weather-wuss - it has to be at least freezing & 95% snow/ice-free trails. what snow we do get in the spring burns off rather quickly.

oh, we have pea-gravel (crumbly granite), but not so much slick rock.

as for bike-rental, oddly enough the broadmoor rents bikes [confirm this], but i wouldn't huck 'em (ok, maybe i would, but only w/in walking distance of the broadmoor)

There's a place called Bike Stop that is pretty close to the Broadmoor.

Bike Stop
719-955-7880
2805 Janitell Rd
Colorado Springs CO 80906

I have no real experience (just bought some inner tubes) with them because I bought everything from Old Town, but I seem to remember them having some reasonably decent rental bikes. Might be worth checking out.
