I just had Ø for oarsome.
The Head of Nøgne brewery in Norway was down here a short while ago and did a colab brew with Renaisance and 8wired brewerys. They recreated Nøgne's #100 using only NZ ingredients.

Awesome beer!!
Before that I had a Ballast point Scuplin IPA which was also on tap (fresh shipment arrived last week).

In other news, as of last week I just became the official NZ distributor of De Molen brewery from the Netherlands.
First shipment should be here mid April. :D

Livin it up in the O.C.
Yes... VERY heavily.

And while I'm glad to see a number of the non-us ones are belgain, I don't see anything like Phantom or mad brewers. Wait, nevermind on Phantom. #89

Glad to see that Cantillon made it up there as well. Still though, Some brew from Indiana made it in at #1?

Three Floyds Brewery is one of my favorite breweries I've ever been to. My friends and I have made the 9hr drive from western NY a couple times for their special events. Once for Dark Lord Day last year and once for their 15th anniversary party. All of their beers that I've tried are amazing.

Now I'm not claiming that they should be #1 but they definitely should be up near the top.

i'm really glad that they finally put it into regular production. i'm not glad the price has gone up.

planning on going to maine again for vaca this summer. i intend on stopping at the brewery this time 'round. Doubt that'll be a problem, their white ale is my fiancee's favorite.

i find it funny that westvleteren is so much higher up the list than st bernardus. st bernard's abt 12 is closer to westvleteren's original recipe than what westvlet currently brews.
Yes, but is the modification to the recipe an improved recipe?
Just being an older version does not necessarily equate to being the best version IMHO.

I've got more than 25 of the 12s that are about 4 years old aging in a wine cellar. I've personally had more than 30 of the 12s, 15 of the 8s, and 30 of the blondes.

The St Bernardus is good. I actually prefer their 8 to the Westy. But the 12, it's not the same.

Having said that, is the difference worth seeking out? Probably not, if it involves a huge amount of time or effort. The St. Bernardus is 85%-95% as good.

edit:

Just look at this list:

I've been drinking Lagunita's Imperial Red Ale... pretty delicious. Very malty, could use a few more hops for balance but still good.

I'll have to try that one. Oddly enough, on ratebeer the complaint from recent ratings seems to be that there's too much hops and not enough of a malt backbone :D

Just had a couple of pints with sstalder5
Started with iwit 2.0 from ferral brewing in aussie, a 7.5% wheat beer.... Hard to finish more like a half way between a cider and a savignion blanc than a beer.

Next a Nøgne imperial stout. fvcking amazing!

Coranado Islander IPA with some garlic bread that had been liberally "Soaked" in a bitchin chilli sauce.

Then Green flash West Coast IPA.

A good night out. :)

sstalder5's pretty cool, had a good chat to him, pretty laid back dude. :)
