I won't even try to defend that one, thats why I immediately called them about it.ncrider said:wow, the first generation was scary thin.
Thanks man, good to know.Brian HCM#1 said:So here's a comparrison of the current and the first generation .
not like you had the option anyway - Craig doesn't give deals to anyone (from what I've been told)Brian HCM#1 said:Yep, I'd pay full pop if I had too, damn I paid full pop for all my Avalanche stuff, but to me the performance is worth the $.
you're sponsored? !Curb Hucker said:Im sponsored by them, Brian has a dealer hookup

seriously, how does a DHer in the midwest get sponsored? do you drive to colorado for races?Curb Hucker said:its great man, we have some big mountains
Bingo. I have to drive for everything, it sucks. My hope sponsorship is just cost pricing not free brakes.narlus said:seriously, how does a DHer in the midwest get sponsored? do you drive to colorado for races?

actually, that's part of the idea, it's a break-away steerer tube. it's meant to give before the fragile head-tube does.Spunger said:Atleast it makes the headtube on a M1 look good (as everyone knows they're suspose to be easy to break).
He's trying to sell a product, thats why he's there. He'll get more exposure from Interbike than just having his website. It would be nice if he did a little price break for retailers & manufactures, but then again it may be hard for him to do that and really make any profit since he probably moves very small quanities a month, he then would be losing $. Anywho thats my take on it.Fulton said:yep, It has never made sense to me why they go to interbike every year, when they haven't had any type of oem or even wholesale program. They'll give a minimal discount on 5 shocks, but it's not even half of what a normal wholesale margin would be.
Hahahahaaaa. This is a joke, right?daveatrisse said:hey this is dave from risse... who are you guys talking about... going to interbike and only makes 5 shocks and doesnt hook it up? that sucks that that clamp broke... there were very few of that style clamp made... around 10pcs... anybody that has the thinner style can get them switched for no charge... brain thanks for being loyal to our product... ride on dude.. these people are lame... big xc riders that own dh bikes that way 30 pounds... ride a lassen or a 50+lb bike and then we can talk... but these dudes are lame.. the 888 is a waste of time for me.. i think they suck... the rebound knob takes days to adjust and you really dont even have that much adjustment. and the compression adjustment blows a fatty load... no change... the fork is way soft even for a 180lb rider... i would rather pay the extra money and get a champ. or a rigid fork... dh bikes suck bmx is way better
thanks for quoting it to preserve it for posterity. if it really is real, then it's not helping risse's cause...ohio said:Hahahahaaaa. This is a joke, right?
Well there's a joke somewhere here. Was it that post, or is it you?daveatrisse said:no it is not
This seems way more serious ............Eric, without seeing how the lower crown failed, or more info about what conditions led up to it (ie. flat landing), it is not responsible for me to speculate as to the cause. The very first batch (15- 20 pieces) of crowns had a much thinner section. These were first introduced at the Sea Otter in April of this year. After more testing, we made a few changes to the lower crown. While we kept the design with a split lower steerer tube clamp to allow the end user to be able to switch the steerer, we increased the thickness in the area of the steerer tube. These changes increased the strength and our crowns are stronger than stock. It is also important to ensure that all of bolts are torqued to 7 Nm +/- 1. If you or anyone has an older set, we are happy to exchange them for a new set. Here is a picture of the underside of the lower crown.
Let me know if you have any other questions,
Sincerely,
Kevin J. Risse

I think they do alot of machine work, outside of the cycling industry.Kanter said:How does Risse stay in business? Do they still sell a lot of forks and shocks? I have only seen a few in the last year or so.
If Risse had a problem with the first 15-20, you would think they would contact these people and exchange them for the stronger version. Yes, it would be costly but it would save them from threads like this one and also help them save face......

Ridemonkey is filled with pros, bike company workers and such and they talk good things about other companies that haven't nothing to do with their company(s)
all Risse guy could do was BASH every suspension company.
if the 888 sucks so much, why is it one of the best selling ones in the world.
i have 2 and very happy with them
"the rebound knob doesn't work"
"the compression doesn't do anything"
um yea i feel the difference out on the trail, thats why its HSCV, high speed compression.
i'm not a suspension guy or anything, but come on.
Its not anyone who works for Risse, I checked the IP address. Unless this guy commutes 2.5 hours each way to work for Risse, it appears to be a bogus post.DHS said:wow, he deleted his posts....

It was a dave that works at risse. I called him on another item and he mentioned this thread. I dont know why he deleted the post. Maybe he realized after making the post he shouldnt openly criticize other competitors products Uhem.... , or maybe since risse doesnt advertize here that it was deleted by some one else? Hm.....Brian HCM#1 said:Its not anyone who works for Risse, I checked the IP address. Unless this guy commutes 2.5 hours each way to work for Risse, it appears to be a bogus post.
What program/website are you using? Just curious.Brian HCM#1 said:And daveatrisse, your IP address is from Chico now, not Redding.
I just got off the phone with Dave from Risse (he called me and I called him back), IT WAS NOT him that posted that. That was the first one he's heard of breaking, the skinny lower crowns were designed by someone from the Europe and were made exclusively for him, however a few (maybe 2-3) made it out in the states without anyone realizing it (I was one of them who received one) Anyways there has not been a problem with them as far as he knows, and I was told if there is a problem with someones crown being defective, contact Risse and they will take care of it.oly said:It was a dave that works at risse. Anyways, feel free to call them up and tell them in person how you think they suck. Every dealing ive had with them has been without problem. They even rebuilt my shock to accomodate my scream to change the hose routing, for free. I know every company has issues from the past, but from my dealings with the j7 i wouldnt hesitate to use their products again.

Um, i dont get it then. Who was it i spoke to? Could there be 2 daves there?? I got a response on my risse shock for sale from Daveatrisse saying call down and we can help with your shock. So i called the # on their website, and asked for dave, and spoke to him, and he had mentioned a post on RM and he didnt mean my post. We talked a bit about the 888 and thats when he asked if i had seen his post. At that time i hadnt.Brian HCM#1 said:I just got off the phone with Dave from Risse (he called me and I called him back), IT WAS NOT him that posted that. No offense Brian, but it sounds like you were fed a thick pile of poo. Like "oh yeah, I have a hot girlfriend... uh, she's up in canada. Yeah, in Canada."Brian HCM#1 said:I just got off the phone with Dave from Risse (he called me and I called him back), IT WAS NOT him that posted that. I just spoke with Dave at Risse and he told me that he has no knowledge of any defect crowns ever being producedJeremy R said:Ha, my favorite part of this thread is how the number of crap crowns that shipped out keeps getting smaller. First it was 15, then it was 10, and now it is 2 to 3. I suppose tomorrow when I log on, it will be down to none at all and this whole thing was in our imagination.
