Hi all. First post in the road forum. Some advice would be very appreciated.

I'm looking to pick up my first road frame. I've been riding a Marin Fairfax around town for a few years, but it is getting tired and I have a set of Ultegra/105 components sitting around waiting for a frame / wheelset. I'm 5'8", weigh 145 lbs, and need something that climbs well - lots of steep roads in the area. Also, I like a more relaxed riding position.

I've been looking around for deals - would something like an older (2006ish) Giant TCR carbon frame work?

Yes, it would work, but it's not going to have exactly the "relaxed" position you're after. The TCR was the full-on race bike. If you want to stick with Giant, look for a bike with the OCR initials, they made some full-carbon versions. More upright, relaxed geo, and a longer wheelbase...

Thank You. Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. I've ridden mtbs for years, but don't know the first thing about road frames.

I'm not set on Giant, I'm just looking for something I can pick up fairly cheap. Any other frame recommendations would be welcome.

You might scope cross frames as well. They tend to be less aggressive and you'll be able to ride gravel roads. Plus many can be had for cheap.

I hear Felts are very good... :)
In all seriousness, the Felt Z series is similar style to that model, most companies offer a model with a similar bent.
