I have a cross bike with cross tires, but would like some dedicated road tires too. I'm a very recreational rider and won't be putting any big miles on, therefore, the tires must be easy to change (Kevlar) and not too expensive.
There's just not a good reason to go for anything else. They can be had for $50-60 each, they roll among the very best, corner at the top of the pack, and have good flat resistance. Sure, there are pirellis which are almost as good, and some of the handmade italians are more supple, but 5ks have been one of the more significant purchases in my road bike career. I love them.
I once got a sidewall tear somewhere prior to halfway of a 60 mile ride, they held for another 30 miles without falling apart.
