after thinking about it for a few years, I finally made it over to Tilburg, NL for Roadburn...it's a pretty small (~2500 or so ppl) festival mainly geared towards metal with the occasional flash of dark psyche or folk, set across 4 indoor stages. The closest comparison I can come up with is the All Tomorrow's Parties events, in that the majority of the bands selected are not well-known in mainstream circles, but have pockets of rabid fans stretched out all over the globe, and the festival is a siren song for those willing to travel.

big thanks to H8R and his crew for helping me out with this gig. it was a load of fun and i'd love to make it an annual pilgrimage, like so many other fans have done.

here's an incomplete recap of my trip...there was a lot more that i could have written about it...i recommend reading JJ's coverage over at The Obelisk as well.

thanks all.

Stevew, CoM is a band you will dig...they had some problems w/ the bass rig (twice!) but managed to still put on a good show.
